Youth Debate 2016
The 36th Cambodian Youth Debate took place on 28 April 2016 at TVK studios, Phnom Penh. More than 120 students attended to support their universities Cambodian Mekong University (CMU), Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE), Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) and Royal University of Agriculture (RUA). The objective is to raise public awareness on environmental issues.
The Debate was presided over by Her Excellency Ms. PRUM Sophy, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment (MoE) and His Excellency Mr. KIEV Sovuthy, Director of the Department of Knowledge & Information at MoE.
Famous Cambodian singer song-writer Ms. MEAS Soksophea joined the Debate as Honorary Guest and continuously inspires Cambodia’s Youth with her commitment to environmental protection.

- “Community-based Natural Resource Management (NRM) is more effective than government-based NRM”
- RULE won against CMU
- “The livelihood of indigenous people, which relies on Non-Timber-Forest-Products is not sustainable”
- RUA won against RUPP
- “Environmental education is more effective than laws to improve the waste situation in Cambodia.”
- RULE won against RUA
